Costa Rica is situated in Central America. It is bordered by the Caribbean Sea on the East and the North Pacific Ocean on the west. The closest neighbors of the country are Nicaragua (to the north) and Panama (to the south). Geographically the territory of Costa Rica is divided into five main areas: Tropical Lowlands (Pacific and Caribbean Coasts), the North Central Plains, the Central Valley and the Northwest Peninsula. As for the governmental subdivision there are seven provinces: Guanacaste, Alajuela, Heredia, Limón, Cartago, San José and Puntarenas.
Costa Rica is a mountainous land. They run through the heart of the country and extend almost continuously from the northwest to the southeast corners. There are four distinct mountain ranges: Guanacaste and Tilaran in the north, Central and Talamanca in the south. The country has tropical climate. The rainy season lasts from May to November and a dry season - from December to April.
